Rumour:Ronaldihno to Chelsea

Transfer market purchases this summer have been thin on the ground. It's a struggle to see where the next big transfer is coming from. July is nearly half over and the biggest transfers this month have been Yakubo and Bellamy (for £7.5m and £5m respectively).

But this could all be about to change if The Daily Telegraph is right and Chelsea are prepared to pay £83m to bring Brazilian midfielder [color=white]Ronaldinho from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge.

The Catalan club have, reportedly, recently inserted a £100m buy-out clause into Ronaldinho's contract - to stop the predatory instincts of Chelsea. If this is not enough is there any player beyond Chelsea's reach?

Surely £83m, even for a superbly gifted player like Ronaldinho, is too much. It doesn't so much break the transfer record as laugh at it and kick sand into it's face.

But with the Chelsea owner further enriched to the tune of £700m this week what is money when Chelsea need an iconic purchase to show the world that they are now a big player for the long term.
